What's my role as a parent?

I have a daughter, Blyss who is turning 4 years old in July and a son, Wysdom who had his first birthday in November. I have just finished listening to an audio book titled, Talent Is Overrated by Geoff Colvin and find the insights to be very refreshing and helpful.

However it has me thinking about the best way that I can assist my children in creating the best future for themselves. And more importantly, the question of what I should be doing now.

One of my interests over the past has been the topic of innovation and the global change due to technology that has allowed for the emergence of the creative economy. With an obsession to understand what significant changes are effecting our future I am curious to know how much something like the choice of school will be (public vs private) and the exposure to things like music lessons and science camp will have on their educational development? Suggestions?
